ARTIST STATEMENT
In the process of studying the history of art, I have repeatedly relied on the fact that applied art, no matter how banal it may sound, is marginalised and belittled in every possible way. It is considered not so much a real 'high' art as a craft or some hobby. For a while I thought of creating works in this field to prove the opposite - applied art is no worse than paintings, and often, due to its interaction with materials, can say even more than traditional painting.

However, after a long search, I realised that my work should not prove anything to anyone. Rather, I want to show how I can create something that makes our world more beautiful.
ARTIST STATEMENT

Zodiac signs

The Zodiac Signs project became the hallmark of the artist.

During one year, the artist created a unique author's image of each zodiac sign.

Each zodiac sign is absolutely unique. Karina Gulyaeva-Garber drew inspiration from the myths and legends of Ancient Greece.

In this series, the artist works with female images, adding to them the sacredness of the human soul, mystery and hoax. Each of the "Zodiac signs" carries individual features and creates deep symbolism from a typical zodiac sector.

These images are used to create unique bar stools. The artist also produces a limited series of Giclee prints with these zodiac signs. A large project of animated NFTs will also be launched soon.

Art objects

Karina Gulyaeva-Garber calls her products functional art objects. The artist develops the furniture design independently, and then the technical assistants finalise the drawings, making them practical and convenient for people.

One of the first objects that Karina made in Moscow after moving from London (where the artist lived, studied and worked for 7 years) was the "Russian Seasons" chest. At the creation of this series, the artist was inspired by Sergei Diaghilev's project

Karina's goal is to fully immerse the viewer in the details of the past.

So the black colour, glossy lacquer coating and bright red boxes in the artist's works were born as a reference to the Palekh miniature. The artist raises the question of the need to preserve cultural heritage and how traditions can nourish modern art.

Each of Gulyaeva-Gaber's works is a reflection of deep immersion in various historical epochs. This is the uniqueness of products that combine author's style and the memory of the world cultural heritage.

Karina Gulyaeva-Garber works sceptibly with symbolism and creates topics for ethical and moral discussions from images familiar to human view.
